Jessica Ross is a second year Communication Studies major at Cal Poly University in California. Although she took Gender Communication as an elective course, she ended up finding up the class invaluable. One of the videos that impacted Jessica the most was Killing Us Softly by Jean Kilbourne. This video opened Jessica's eyes to how impactful advertisements can be, and the subliminal messages they convey to women of all ages. This inspired Jessica to investigate more on how women are portrayed in advertisements, and the effects of this farce.
Carlye Sani is a junior Communication Studies major at California Polytechnic State University. Since being at Cal Poly, Carlye has found courses such as Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, and Gender Communication to be among the most valuable courses she has taken. Upon graduating from college, she aspires to work in Public Relations and Advertising. This career goal sparked her interest to explore the problems and solutions to how women are portrayed in advertising.
